The Government has allocated €13,638,750 in funding for improving and maintaining local and regional roads in Laois in 2024.
The news was confirmed by Laois TD Sean Fleming who is the Minister for State at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The biggest chunk, €7.037 million will be spent on Restoration Improvement works.
Local and national routes are to have repairs to junctions and €422,500 in climate adaptation and resilience work.
Work is planned at bridges such as Woodenbridge, Forrest Bridge, Brittas Bridge, Knocks Bridge and Clonmeen Bridge who will share in funding of €525,000.
Regional and local road improvement work will share in €328,000 which will cover areas throughout Laois.
A total of €700,000 has been allocated to the N7 for road rehabilitation works while the Portarlington Relief Scheme was granted €100,000.
Deputy Fleming said: “This investment will fund the repairing, strengthening and maintenance of Laois roads and ensure they are fit for purpose.
Under the road Safety Improvement Works, funding has been allocated for works at Tinnahinch, Rosenallis; Clonard, Mountrath; Derrydavy, Mountmellick; Lea Road, Portarlington; Crookedwood Cross, Abbeyleix and Cuddagh Cross.
“I would also like to highlight special funding for works at Green Roads, Borris-in-Ossory; Glendownes, Portlaoise; Orchard; Crubeen, Ballyroan; Cappoley; Killeany, Shanahoe and Monaclear Ballinakill.
“Maintaining and improving Laois roads is crucial to our local communities across Laois.
“These roads are also vital for families and children going to work and school safely.”
