Two houses on the Stradbally Road in Portlaoise are currently being demolished with big plans in place for their replacements.
The two vacant and derelict houses at Beladd on the Stradbally Road in Portlaoise were acquired by Laois County Council by Compulsory Purchase Order in March 2022.

Two internationally renowned YouTubers who have more than 41 million subscribers across three channels were in Portlaoise this week.
Olajide Olayinka Williams “JJ” Olatunji, known as KSI, was videoed on social media yesterday afternoon in Laois alongside his companion Tobi Brown (TBJZL).
3 – In Pictures: Portlaoise GAA acknowledge teams past and present at Dinner Dance
When you’ve a club as big as Portlaoise, acknowledging the achievements of the various teams can be a challenge.
But they did so in style in the Midlands Park Hotel last week, celebrating numerous teams of the past as well as victorious men’s and women’s teams from the 2023 season.

The Killeshin Hotel hosted a night of great celebration for Annanough GAA club last Saturday night as the Vicarstown-based club reflected on a successful 2023 season.
The club were impressive winners of the Laois Junior ‘A’ football championship in October.
5 – Laois County Council agree to sell four sites in Ballyroan for €120,000
The January meeting of Laois County Council saw the sale of eleven Council sites across the county, delivered under Section 183 of the Local Government Act 2001.
This list included four sites in the Ballyroan area.
All four sites were sold for €30,000 each, returning €120,000 in total.

A powerhouse performance in the first half has given Justin McNulty’s Laois side a well-deserved win last Saturday away in Wexford.
Killian Roche and Shaun Fitzpatrick were outstanding for Laois and led their team to a second league win in a row.

The Laois Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029, which was drafted last year, was formally adopted by Laois County Council earlier this week at the Council’s January meeting.
Two Laois Councillors – Sinn Féin Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley and Independent Cllr Aisling Moran – used this time to raise climate concerns with the Council.
8 – 17 clubs represented as Laois U-20 footballers name 34 player panel for 2024 season
The Laois U-20 football manager Kieran Kelly has named his panel ahead of the 2024 Leinster U-20 football championship.
St Joseph’s and Portlaoise lead the way with four players each, while in total, 17 Laois clubs have at least one member of their club on the panel.

An emerging Irish talent with a strong Laois connection has joined the professional boxing ranks, with some of the sport’s biggest figures behind him.
20-year-old, Eoghan Lavin, who’s mother is from Timahoe, will be surrounded by names including Anthony Joshua, Anthony Crolla, and Frank Warren.
10 – South Leinster Colleges SFC ‘D’: Hunt and Lawlor lead dominant Mountmellick to regional glory
Mountmellick Community School were crowned South-Leinster Colleges senior football champions last week, after a whirlwind final in SETU Carlow this evening.
Adam Hunt and Rory Lawlor were outstanding in the forwards, with the pair doing most of the scoring as Mountmellick completely overpowered Wicklow’s Coláiste Craobh Abhann.
