Members of the Knockbeg senior football panel are set to dye their hair blonde in a bid to raise funds for breast cancer research.
The lads are currently preparing to compete in the Leinster ‘A’ football championship quarter finals which are scheduled for after Christmas.
They have been drawn at home to three-in-a-row seeking Naas CBS with the game down for early January.
But before all of that, members of the team have decided to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
This is a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the University of Galway.
Breast cancer research has improved the diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes for those who develop the disease.
They want to fund these research programmes to continue to impact the outcomes for those who develop the disease in the future.
The research team, in collaboration with universities and hospitals across the globe, focuses on the development and improvement of diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies, to drive real and measurable improvement in clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Forward Cialan Brady, who scored 1-7 in the recent win over Terenure College, explained how they decided to raise money for that particular charity.
The Eire Og clubman said: “Our fellow Sixth Year Mikey Kelly, his mam was diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
“So, members of the team have decided to dye our hair blonde and have launched a fundraiser for doing so.
“We have chosen the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and every donation will help.”
The fundraiser was only launched two days ago and already, they lads are well over the €3,500 mark.
Cialan said: “We are blown away by the support and intend to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.”
