Laois PPN Member Groups received a warm welcome for ‘Winter Wander’, a guided tour of Abbeyleix – winner of Ireland’s Tidiest Town 2023.
The guided tour was held in collaboration with Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.
The “Winter Wander”, started at the Heritage House, where attendees learned about the work of Abbeyleix Tidy towns and the rich heritage of Abbeyleix.
The event was part of Laois PPNs Climate Action Project 2023. The aim of the Climate Action Project is to raise awareness of Climate Action and the positive steps that Community Groups can take.
Along the walk attendees learned of the many positive Climate Action initiatives undertaken by Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.
Highlights of the guided walk included Abbeyleix Heritage House, Abbeyleix Community Garden and Abbeyleix Bog Project.
As the attendees wandered down main street, they took in the Christmas sights and sounds and were treated to mince pies and hot chocolates from Award winning local artisan bakery, Mueller & O’Connell and samples from Bobs Award Winning Butchers.
The walk finished at one of the finest examples of conservation and biodiversity in Ireland, The Abbeyleix Bog Project.
The day was closed out at the Manor Hotel with warm savory bites, tea coffee and sweet treats.
