Portlaoise Institute Introduces New QQI Level 5 Module in Special Needs Assistant

Portlaoise Institute is thrilled to announce the launch of a new QQI Level 5 Module in Special Needs Assistant (SNA), commencing on January 10th, 2023. The 13-week course aims to provide comprehensive training for individuals seeking a rewarding career in supporting children with special needs.

This specialised module will be held at the Portlaoise Institute campus every Wednesday evening, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The course is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and practical experience required to excel in the role of a Special Needs Assistant.

The course will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including the role and responsibilities of the Special Needs Assistant, the qualities and skills of an effective Special Needs Assistant and legal and ethical considerations in the field.

Speaking on the launch of the course, Principal of Portlaoise Institute, Keith McClearn said “Our QQI Level 5 SNA course will give learners the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification. They will acquire the knowledge, empathy, and understanding crucial to their future role as support to persons needing assistance with their learning.

  • The cost of the course is €20 and free for students with a medical card.
