The excitement is building in Camross as there are now just two days to go before Sunday’s Laois SHC final.
They are going in search of their 27th title and the whole community is certainly behind them – with black and amber visible from the moment you leave Mountrath.
We took a trip to the local schools today where they boys and girls are really looking forward to the game.
In Camross NS, teacher Mr Joe Phelan, who will line out at corner back, has the full support of his 3rd and 4th Class.
While there are plenty of connections from pupils in the school to members of the panel.
Keeper Tadhg Doran’s son Eoin and daughter Saoirse are in Senior and Junior infants while their granny Breda is the long-serving and most welcome school secretary.
Eoin Gaughan’s sister Molly Duff, Eoghan Cuddy’s sister Faye, Ben Deegan’s sister Siadbh and Dwane Palmer’s niece Amber were also present.
Parish Priest Fr Brian Griffin is looking forward to his second county final since he arrived in Camross in 2021 – and will be holding a mass where prayers will be said for the team tomorrow night.
The children all came together under the guidance of principal Ms Talitha Horan and performed their county final song (which we will have uploaded soon).
It was a Camross twist on the Elton John classic ‘I’m Still Standing’.
After that, we took the short trip across the mountain and arrived at Killanure NS just before they headed off for a big Cumann na mBunscol match against Clonenagh.
Principal Niamh Reynolds and teacher Fiona Delaney were in great spirits as were all of the children.
Cathal and Tom Cuddy have been excellent for Camross this year and their younger brothers, Darragh and Tim, will be roaring them on this Sunday.
So too are Zane Keenan’s children Kaiah and Zach plus James Cuddy’s younger sister Abbie.
Dean Delaney’s son Brody, Darrell Dooley’s son Senan and Niall Holmes’ son Finn are all looking forward to the final too.
