A man is due before court today following a drugs seizure in Laois on Tuesday worth around €60,000.
Gardai, on routine patrol, made the seizure on the R445 near Emo after stopping a car containing two men.
Following a search of the car, cannabis herb worth €60,000 was seized along with a quantity of cocaine worth in excess of €5,000 and a small amount of ecstasy.
The men were taken to a Garda Station in Laois and were currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
All of the drugs seized are subject to analysis by FSI.
Gardai have since confirmed that one of the men was released and the other charged.
They said: “There was a smell of cannabis emanating from vehicle. The driver was initially arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
“A subsequent search of vehicle located €60,400 of cannabis, €5,600 of cocaine and €540 of ecstasy.
“A man in his 20s arrested following the seizure of drugs in County Laois on Tuesday has been charged.
“He expected to appear before a sitting of the District Court in Portlaoise this morning, 21st September 2023, at 10:30am.
“The second man arrested was released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
