Laois Labs Flag Football Club will be running an open day for prospective new members at the Portlaoise Leisure Centre Astro Pitch at 1pm on Saturday, September 23.
“The Club would like to take this opportunity to welcome all people looking to make new friends, get fit or pick up a new sport,” organisers said.
“No prior experience of the sport is required, and all one needs to bring is a pair of football boots.
“We are a new club founded only last year and would appreciate any reporting of our achievements at our first ever competitive game.”
Flag Football is a non-contact variant of American Football, similar to tag rugby.
It is played in mixed-gender teams and is open to everyone 16 years of age or older.
Laois Labs Flag Football Club was founded in 2022 by a group of friends passionate about Flag Football and their home county of Laois.
The Club plays in the American Football Ireland (AFI) Flag Football League First Division and is undefeated in the league.
The Club motto is “is é méid an trios sa madra” (It’s about the size of the fight in the dog).
Hayley Fitzgibbon, the Club’s Head Coach said: “This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to try out the sport.
“The Coaching Team have worked extremely hard to organise the
open day as a safe and inclusive event.”
“The event is funded by a Sports and Physical Activity Grant from Laois Sports Partnership under the Women in Sport strand.
“Laois Labs Flag Football Club would like to thank Laois Sports Partnership for their ongoing support.”
