Emo native Ava O’Connor ran a personal best in the European U-23 steeplechase final in Finland on Saturday, claiming an eighth place finish in the process.
O’Connor, who is on an athletics scholarship in America and runs for the Tullamore Harriers club, is relatively new to the steeplechase but recorded a personal best of 10.01.34 in the 3000m race.
It was a second PB in three days having also performed strongly in Thursday’s semi-final.
She had previously represented Ireland at senior level in the Division 3 European Championships in Poland last month.
“It’s really nice knowing that my training is going in the direction it should,” said O’Connor afterwards.
“My performances show my training is working so I’m really happy with that.”
Meanwhile, St Abban’s athlete Ruby Millet is in the long jump final later today.
Millet also set a personal best in her semi-final with a jump of 6.42m and goes in the final at 4.35pm Irish time this afternoon.
