Portlaoise 26 Tullow 10
Leinster Rugby U-15 Plate Final
Portlaoise RFC U-15s brought the curtain down on a fine season with a hard-earned victory over Tullow in Donnybrook on Sunday to claim the Leinster Rugby Plate title.
After a nervous opening by both sides, Portlaoise gradually got a foothold in the Tullow half and captain Eanna Moynihan powered over the line to give Portlaoise the lead after 10 minutes. Out-half Matt Cunningham added the extras for a 7-0 lead.
Tullow scored a penalty soon after but Moynihan once again crossed the whitewash to extend the lead to 12-3.
On the stroke of halftime, Cunningham beat the defence to score out on the right and he added the points for a 19-3 lead at the break.
Credit to Tullow, they started the second half with intent and were rewarded with a converted try after just five minutes to make it 19-10.
Midway through the half, Donnchadh Carroll was on the end of a fine move to extend the Portlaoise lead to 26-10.
Tullow pressed hard for the remainder of the match but strong defence from Portlaoise saw them home on a final score of 26-10.
Well done to all the players and their coaches Glenn Cooper, Brendan Carroll, Dave Whelan, Dara Drea, and Frank Byrne.
