Portlaoise Garda Station, in collaboration with Laois Chamber Alliance, has unveiled a piece of life-saving equipment.
The pair have announced that a new defibrillator has been purchased for the Garda Station in Portlaoise.
This is a community defibrillator, similar to the one in Mountmellick Garda Station.
The defibrillator is available to anyone in the community who requires its use and Gardaí locally are being trained in its use and other basic first aid techniques.
The defibrillator was purchased with the support of Laois Chamber Alliance and presented to Inspector Patrick Guinan and Inspector Joseph Culleton by Caroline Hofman, CEO of Laois Chamber Alliance.
A spokesperson said: “A great deal of background work went into the purchase of this machine and into the training provided.
“We would like to extend a special thank you to Superintendent John Lawless, Sergeant Justine Reilly, Judge Andrew Cody and Damian Dollard, Laois Civil Defence who were of great support to this initiative.”
