Thomasina Connell, Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, has given birth to a baby boy.
The Portlaoise-based Fine Gael councillor shared the news on social media over the weekend – an historic occasion making her the first member of Laois County Council to give birth while in office.
Baby Thomas Norman Lynas was born on Monday, December 12.
Cllr Connell shared a photo of herself with her partner Tristan Lynas, a Kilkenny native and fellow solicitor, and their new bundle of joy leaving hospital. I
“Welcome baby Tom,” said Cllr Connell on her social media.
“Feeling grateful to be going home today with our gorgeous baby boy.”
“Thank you for all the kind wishes and messages Tristan and I have received all week. Looking forward to a very special Christmas.”
As Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr Connell has had a very busy six months since taking on the role.
Cllr Connell was elected to Laois County Council for the first time in May 2019. She had previously contested the 2016 General Election for the party and is among the leading contenders to replace long-serving TD Charlie Flanagan when he opts to step aside.
