Timahoe GAA and Tigh Mochua le cheile are coming together to create the inaugural Noel Ramsbottom St Stephen’s Day Road Race and Family fun walk/run.
They are hosting this run to honour Noel’s love of physical fitness, football and athletics.
Timahoe native Noel was heavily involved in athletics and represented Ireland at international level.
Noel’s forte was athletics and he was a prominent runner, bringing that expertise into football training to great effect.
Noel was one of the founding members of Timahoe AC and ran for a number of clubs including Timahoe, St Abbans and Portlaoise.
Noel was also a guru on the football field as he had lots of success managing various football teams.
He was involved with the Timahoe teams of the 1960s, culminating in their one and only senior success in 1969.
Noel later worked alongside the late Bobby Miller with the Laois and Carlow county teams as well as the Athy and Eire Og club teams, with Eire Og coming agonizingly close to All Ireland success in 1993 and 1996 and dominating the Leinster club scene at that time.
Noel currently holds the record for the back avenue in Timahoe with a stunning time of 14 minutes and 21 seconds which is the course that the memorial run will take place in.
It is said that Noel actually jumped over a car during the run when he set the record for the course.
The run will begin at 11 AM on Monday December 26. People looking to partake in the run can register at the Timahoe community hall on the morning of the race.
Those seeking a fast time will be let out first while those entering casually will go second.
There will be a cup for the fastest runner and all funds raised go towards essential works on St Michaels Church Timahoe.
