This Friday, 26 August, Portlaoise GAA Club are hosting a huge fundraiser in association with SOSAD called “Walk For The Town” which will be a mammoth 24 hour fundraiser.
The fundraiser is to raise much needed funds to assist with the day to day running of the club with a portion of all funds raised going to SOSAD.
SOSAD is a non-profit organisation that provides free counselling services to people who are suffering with mental health issues including Suicidal Ideation, Self-Harming, Depression, Stress & Anxiety.
The fundraiser is a 24-hour event with club members being nominated as “Walk Leaders” to lead the walkers on the hourly 5k walking loop of the town.
Portlaoise Chairman, Eamon Fennelly, spoke to LaoisToday about the fundraiser, he said: “Portlaoise GAA is a hive of activity at the moment with a lot of development work on the go.
“But it has also taken on a full time Games Promotion Officer position which is vital to future of the club, and in ensuring that children throughout the town and surrounds have the opportunity to partake in our national games and to receive top quality coaching along the way.
“As this is a 24 hour event the club have gathered together a large group of “Walk Leaders” to lead the walkers on the hourly 5k walking loop of the town.
“Portlaoise GAA is proud to link up with SOSAD Laois – an organisation which is doing tremendous work on the ground in our community.”
