A renowned Laois singer who has toured internationally will return to her roots for a local concert later this month in Portlaoise.
Mezzo-soprano Heather Fogarty will perform with The Trinity Ensemble in St Peter’s Church, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise next Wednesday, August 30.
She began singing lessons at the age of 9 with Patricia Finnegan in the Laois School of Music.
Her potential was evident from early on and at the age of 14 she was awarded a music scholarship to the Schola Cantorum at St. Finian’s College Mullingar where she continued her musical studies for five years.
Heather later graduated with an honours degree in Vocal studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2015.
Amongst the notable performances by the Laois singer include the role of Pitti sing in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado with the Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society in the NCH, the Owl in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen with RIAM, the role of the 3rd soprano in Carassimi’s opera brief Jephte and the 3rd Knabe in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote both with the RIAM.
Other performances include the role of Mirinda in ‘L’Ormindo’; a production with RIAM, The Nursing sister in RIAM’s production of Puccini’s ‘Suor Angelica’ at the Abbey Theatre and Chorus in NI Opera’s most recent production of Turandot in Belfast’s Opera house.
Tour
Heather has toured all over Germany and performed in Sala, São Paolo, Brazil with the Lübeck choir academy under maestro Rolf Beck.
Since graduating from the RIAM, Heather has been training with vocal coach Judith Mok and completed a screen acting course in BowStreet academy Dublin.
Apart from singing Heather enjoys acting and has featured recently in Irish Short Films – “Preying Eyes”, “Isolation”, “Time Set” and has also acted in a music video for an indie electronic duo “A Dream The Night”.
Heather will tour North America in January 2019 with “The Four Irish Sopranos and Tenors from Dublin” a Columbia artists production directed by composer and conductor Derek Gleeson.
