When there’s a war raging on the far side of the continent, there’s a certain sense of helplessness in this part of the world.
But anyone can make a difference, no matter how small.
And it’s that attitude that the community of Barrowhouse are embracing as they are teaming up with a local transport company that are able to get essential supplies shipped to those in need in Ukraine following the Russian invasion last week.
“Please let’s do our part in helping those in need,” say the organisers behind the venture.
Barrowhouse GAA and community are teaming up with A Transport Athy and are arranging a collection of essential goods to be shipped from Ireland to a distribution centre close to the Ukrainian boarder in Poland.
They are asking for donations of any or some of the following items to be packed in banana boxes if at all possible.
- Children’s clothes
- Nappies
- Anti-septic creams
- Wet wipes
- Toothpaste/soap/toothbrushes.
- Sanitary items for women
- Women’s underwear (new)
- Washing up powder (small boxes)
- Colouring pencils an books
- Dry food (lentils, buckwheat, stockcubes, dried veg ect)
- Plastic plates, bowls and cutlery
- Tinned meat and fish
- Shampoos.
- Paracetamol
- Ibuprofen…
- Milton tablets or equivalent
If sending shampoo etc it’s advised that it be wrapped in cling flim or put in plastic sealed containers.
It’s also suggested that a small contents list be written out in English or Polish and taped to the boxes so it can be allocated as quickly as possible.
The club are operating a collection point for donations in the Barrowhouse GAA grounds this week on Tuesday and Friday night from 7.30pm-9pm and on Saturday from 1pm to 3pm.
You can also make donations via a collection point at A Transport, Athy, R14 H593.
Amigo International Transport https://amigoint.ie/ will then transport these supplies from Ireland directly to Hrubieszowski Osrodek Sports Center where these items will be distributed to those in most need.
