Sympathies have been paid to a Laois TD and County Councillor following the passing of their beloved sister.
Ann Fleming, sister of TD Sean and Councillor Padraig, passed away on Tuesday January 4.
She died peacefully in the loving care of the nurses and staff at Peamount Health Care, Newcastle, Dublin and was formerly in the care of The Sisters of Charity, Navan Road, Dublin.
This morning’s meeting of Laois County Council was postponed as a mark of respect to the Fleming family.
The proposal to adjourn today’s Special Meeting on the Laois County Development Plan until January 25th was proposed by Cllr John Joe Fennelly and seconded by Cllr Willie Aird.
Cllr Fennelly led the tributes to the late Ms Fleming.
He said: “This is a very sad time for the Fleming family and I know that they all deeply loved Ann very much.
“I would like to thank all my colleagues here today for agreeing to an adjournment as it is certainly the right thing to do in the circumstances.”
Cathaoirleach Conor Bergin said: “On behalf of all the members here and the staff at the Council, I would like to pass on my condolences to the Fleming family at this sad time.
“It is a very difficult time for anyone to be bereaved and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
Cllr Paschal McEvoy said: “Christmas time is a very sad time for anyone to lose a member of their family.
“So my sympathies go to everyone of the Fleming family.”
Cllr Ben Brennan said: “I didn’t know Ann personally but I know she lived to a great age and she had a fabulous life.
“As Paschal said, it is a sad time to lose someone and my thoughts are with all the Fleming family.”
Cllrs Catherine Fitzgerald, Aisling Moran, Willie Aird, Noel Tuohy, James Kelly, Thomasina Connell and Caroline Dwane-Stanley also paid tribute to Ms Fleming.
Ms Fleming is predeceased by her father and mother John and Peg. Deeply regretted by her brothers and sisters Mary, Lazerian, Jim, Padraig, Leo, Margaret, Seán, Brendan and Joseph, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Anne’s funeral mass will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Wolfhill, for Requiem Mass at 1pm today.
The Mass will be live-streamed on the ballyadamsparish website. Burial afterwards in Clogh Cemetery.
