There is deep sadness in Emo and the surrounding areas this week following the passing of Conor Montague.
From Limetree, Woodbrook, Portarlington, Conor passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday October 13.
He is deeply missed by his heartbroken parents Sean and Mary, adoring brother Eoin, grandparents Sean and Annetta Conway, Paddy and Patricia Montague, great-grandmother Mary, Godparents, aunts, uncles, relatives and a large circle of friends.
A Third Year Engineering student in UCD, Conor was also a very talented sportsperson.
With St Paul’s, he won championships at all levels from U-14 up to U-20 and also played at adult level for Emo.
His club paid him a heartfelt tribute on Facebook this morning.
They said: “Everyone at Emo GAA club would like to offer our deepest condolences to Mary, Sean and Eoin Montague on the sad passing of Conor.
“Conor played with St Paul’s from under 10 right up to under 21 level and also played senior and junior with Emo.
“Conor was an accomplished wing back who always gave everything to his team.
“He always showed great tenacity and courage when he wore the jersey.
“Conor’s friends will always remember him as a hugely popular, larger than life character.
“Having completed two years of his engineering degree in UCD, he had just entered his third year.
“He was a very talented young man who had been chosen to do an internship in France during the summer.
“Conor’s passing will leave a huge void in the lives of everyone who knew him and he will always be remembered.
“A dheis Dé go raibh a Anam.”
As a mark of respect, Emo’s Senior championship game against Graiguecullen, scheduled for Friday evening, has been postponed.
Laois GAA said: “Due to a bereavement in Emo Club, the Laois Shopping Centre SFC Q/Final game between Emo and Graiguecullen on Saturday 16th of October has been postponed.
“The Portarlington versus Stradbally game will proceed as scheduled at 7pm.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Montague family and Emo Club during this difficult time.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. May Conor Rest in Peace.
