Laois County Council have agreed to sell three pieces of land to members of the public.

At a recent meeting of Laois County Council, Councillors were asked to consider the disposal of land in Portarlington, Rathdowney and Borris-In-Ossory – which they approved.

A freehold of 0.029 hectares at 24 Canal Court, Portarlington, in the townland of Cooltederry was sold to Catherine Tynan for €1.

€300 was the fee for the disposal of 0.00206 hectares of land at 29 O’Daly Terrace, Rathdowney to Paddy Fitzpatrick.

While a site of 0.074 hectares of land at Castletown in the townland of Churchfield was sold to Scott Meenehan from Ballybrophy for €25,000.

This is one of ten council owned serviced sites which are being sold beside each other.

A serviced site means that the land is already connected for mains water and sewerage which saves the owner money.

Director of Services Joe Delaney explained how the Council began selling such plots into 2019.

He said: “In 2019 we launched an effort to sell these sites again.

“Nine are at €30,000, this one is smaller and that is why it is €25,000.”
