There have been no further Coronavirus-related deaths and 394 new cases, according to figures released by the health authorities today.
With 12 new cases announced today, Laois now has a 14-day incidence rate of 201.9.
This leaves us fourth highest in the country behind Offaly (278.3), Kildare (213) and Dublin (207.2) – with the national average at 131.9
Of the cases notified today:
- 179 are men / 214 are women
- 75% are under 45 years of age
- The median age is 33 years old
- 175 in Dublin, 34 in Kildare, 21 in Galway, 21 in Mayo, 20 in Limerick and the remaining 123 cases are spread across 18 other counties
As of 8am today, 227 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 50 are in ICU. 22 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
As of April 10th 2021, 1,058,394 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland:
- 745,363 people have received their first dose
- 313,031 people have received their second dose

NIAC to recommend changes to AstraZeneca
The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) is expected to recommend that only people over 60 years of age should get the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
RTE News say NIAC will convey its position to Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn who will report the advice to the Government and then to the Health Service Executive.
The development follows reports of a possible link between the vaccine and rare blood clotting issues in a small number of adults.
