Community spirit will be alive and well in Laois this weekend as local Tidy Towns groups and GAA clubs come together.
On Saturday March 6, Durrow, Abbeyleix and Cullohill Tidy Towns groups will join forces with The Harps and Abbeyleix GAA clubs in a ‘community clean-up’.
Volunteers will be out in force on the main road from Cullohill to Abbeyleix to pick up litter.
Volunteers from Abbeyleix GAA will work from the Abbeyleix Manor to Morans Cross and back in again.
While The Harps volunteers will work in the opposite direction.
One of the organisers said: “It is Important to say that all participants will work within government guidelines of 5 km and in their own covid social bubble.
“Participants will meet from 9.30am in Abbeyleix, Durrow and Cullahill and the event will commence at 10am.
“We hope that many will turn out on the day and help clean up this stretch of road which will be of benefit to all three communities.
“Litter pickers and collection bags will be kindly supplied by Laois County Council and Laois Hire have kindly sponsored the Electronic Message Signage, to warn motorists using the road during this period.
“Thanks in advance and thanks to Fred Townsend of Durrow Tidy Towns for organising a great initiative.
“Looking forward to seeing as many as possible on Saturday.”
