Man charged following thefts from shops and cars in Laois town

Gardai in Portlaoise have charged a man with a number of thefts from local shops and cars.

The incidents occurred recently and the man is now awaiting a court appearance.

Gardai say: “Please remember our local shops have supported us all during this pandemic and appreciate your support.

“If you see suspicious activity in shops let staff, security or ourselves know.

“A Court appearance is due.

“Also please remember to remove property from cars when parking them.”

Meanwhile, with inclement weather forecast, Gardai have asked the public to look out for vulnerable neighbours and contact them if there are any issues.

They say: “With bad weather expected, make sure to provide support to older and vulnerable neighbours.

“If you have doubts about safety of older or vulnerable neighbours, seek our assistance.

“Our colleagues are out and about continuously patrolling and carrying out crime prevention checkpoints.
