Emergency services are currently attending the scene of a crash at Junction 14 on the M7 motorway.
The incident occurred earlier this morning on near Monasterevin on the M7 Eastbound (heading for Dublin) and AA Roadwatch are reporting that there is currently a queue of traffic on that road.
Meanwhile, there are a number of stop-go systems in operation in Laois today.
A stop-go system continues on Coote Street in Portlaoise from 8am to 6pm until tomorrow Friday, December 4, and also on the N80 on the Tullamore side of Mountmellick from 7am to 7pm.
Works in Arles village, which have been ongoing for the past number of weeks, are also continuing until tomorrow at 6pm.
Motorists are reminded by AA Roadwatch that driving during the winter season “can be more challenging than at any other time of the year”.
“The combination of changing weather, reduced daylight and the increased risk of fatigue kicking in during the pre and post-work commute (for those who must travel to work during the Covid-19 restrictions) unfortunately often leads to an increase in incidents on Irish roads at this time of year. ”
“While fatigue is an issue for drivers all year round, the winter season brings with it a heightened risk as we often find ourselves doing most of our driving in darkness.
“This combined with the additional commitments you may be juggling in the months ahead can lead to your concentration slipping while you’re behind the wheel.
“If you find this happening the best option is to pull in somewhere safe and take a 10 to 15-minute break from driving, ideally getting a coffee if you have the option to do so.”
