A Laois village came together recently to clean up some disgusting rubbish that had been left around their area.
More than 20 people in Clonaslee got together on Friday last and cleaned out Brittas Wood and the surrounding areas.
They filled a total of 28 bags with rubbish and they were subsequently taken away by Laois County Council on the request of local Cllr Seamus McDonald.
Secretary of Clonaslee Tidy Towns Patrick Blake explained how the community came together.
He said: “Over 20 people came out and cleaned Brittas Woods and surrounds of cans and litter in which 28 bags were collected.
“This is an utter disgrace that people will not take pride in the village they live and leave a lovely public amenity area in such a state.
“Many local and visitors walk here on a daily basis.
“The event was organised by Hilary Fallon with assistance from Clonaslee Tidy Towns and members from the parish.
“Local Cllr Seamus McDonald also arranged for four ‘no dumping’ signs to be delivered here. While he also arranged for the Council to remove the bags of rubbish that we collected.”
