With the Christmas Season well and truly upon us, look for somewhere different to enjoy the most magical time of the year – The Old Yard has created just that.
Located outside Castledermot in South County Kildare and a stones throw from Kilkea Castle you will find what was once a run down farmyard.
Una Broderick and her husband Ivan Neale (both hail from Laois farming families) have tastfully transformed these granite outbuildings into a Destination.
These granite buildings, which once housed a variety of farm animals, have undertaken a quality restoration project over a number of years. A nod to the past is evident as cowstalls complete with chains are still intack.
As twilight falls, The Old Yard takes on magical atmosphere. Evergreen garlands and soft white lights twinkle from the roof tops; a giant Christmas Tree takes centre stage as Christmas Carols play in the background.
A carefully curated collection of goods make The Old Yard a perfect place to start your gifting.
From Luxury Wool Throws, Fine Stationery, Delicate Jewellery, Kitchen Ware, Local Pottery, Books, Art & Scented Candles from the Oldest Candle Makers in the World made in Dublin are sitting pretty where once farm animals were housed. Complete with an collection of Curios & Antiques from Joy Thorpe.
There’s definitely something for everyone on your gifting list.
There is also a Gourmet Food section with a gathering of Irish Artisan producers from Chocolatiers to Foragers that sit alongside The Old Yard range of Jams, Preserves and Chutneys. Apple Pies, Bakewell Tarts and Pretty Pastries baked each morning from the Bakery are wrapped and ready for home in the store.
Enjoy, brunch, lunch or delightful homebakes in the Garden Room. Alfresco is best in the summer months but this time of the year when the weather is not so kind sit by the Fire & look out over the Courtyard! Everything on the small but very tasty menu is made fresh every morning in their very own bakery.

- Wednesday – Sunday 10am-5pm (11am on Sundays)
- Late Opening Friday evenings ‘til 8pm.
