The story of Abbeyleix Bog continues to woo audiences nationally and is set to feature yet again on TV.
The ongoing success of the heritage and environmental project will be highlighted on RTE television later this afternoon.
To catch the item on the Abbeyleix Bog you can tune in to RTE One television for the Today with Maura and Daithí show from 3.30pm.
On this occasion the Laois landscape and unique habitat comes to national attention as it is a finalist in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards for 2019. Abbeyleix is one of 36 finalists across a variety of categories.
Abbeyleix Bog project is not only a flagship in terms of peatland and habitat conservation but is also regarded as a superb example of community participation and grassroots volunteerism.
The project has previously been visited by President Michael D Higgins who praised its contribution to environmental awareness and biodiversity.
Abbeyleix Bog is renowned for its flora and fauna and boasts 23 different varieties of butterfly which can be viewed there during the summer and autumn.
The distinctive landscape, flowers and wildlife on the bog are also to be showcased in a 2020 calendar currently being produced by the Abbeyleix Bog project committee.
The project has a committed and dynamic voluntary committee and two of those actively involved in the development of the bog as a nature reserve and public amenity Koos Uys and Ricky Whelan will be chatting to Maura and Daithí on the popular afternoon show later today.
