Local Link Laois Offaly have been shortlisted for the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards, the ceremony which is taking place on the evening of Thursday, November 14 in Croke Park, Dublin.
The Age Friendly Judges attended a presentation at Laois Co Co on Friday last for a presentation from the Manager of Local Link Laois Offaly, Frances Byrne, which highlighted the services and collaborative work and initiatives under‐taken to improve and enhance the quality of life for our older communities in Laois and
Offaly.
The presentation was well attended with members from the Age Friendly Alliance and Forum, local County Councillors and members of Laois and Offaly County Council.
The awards ceremony is a great way to celebrate innovative and creative initiatives, implemented across the Country in 2018/2019, which have made a real difference to the lives of older people in Ireland.
Local Link Laois Offaly have collaborated with the Age Friendly Alliances, Fire Services, Laois Partnership and Offaly Local Development in the distribution and installation of smoke alarms, the message in a bottle scheme which aides Emergency Services at a person’s house to find out about their medical history and next of kin details.
The diversity of services provided by Local Link Laois Offaly from over 60 scheduled door to door services on a weekly basis which accounts for 200 plus weekly trips, the evening services, the pilot designated local area hackney scheme, and this year the replacement service for the Roscrea to Portlaoise corridor when the private operator stepped away in April last and their many once off trips have seen already over 76,000 passengers utilise Local Link Laois Offaly services in 2019.
The awards will be sponsored and presented by partners in Age Friendliness, including the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design at the NDA, Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport, An Garda Siochana, Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, Department of Rural & Community Development,
Chambers Ireland, An Post and the Department of Health.
Each shortlisted entry will receive a certificate of
recognition/achievement at the Awards ceremony plus one of the shortlisted projects will be chosen for special recognition and will be presented with a unique piece of crystal on the night.
