The 2019 European Week of Sport and Physical Activity will be celebrated across Ireland from 23rd-30th September 2019.
European Week of Sport aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level.
With a focus on grassroots initiatives, the aim is to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.
Being Active doesn’t mean having to be part of a sports club, a gym, running marathons or cycling across Europe. Being Active can be running around playing with your children, grabbing a walk with work colleagues on your lunch break, going outside and exploring the great outdoors – whatever gets you moving to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Being Active leads to;
- An increase in health benefits
- Better mental health
- Feeling great
- Confidence
- Increase in productivity
This year Laois Sports Partnership supported by Sport Ireland are delighted to work in partnership with SVT Activity & Wellness Hub and the Buggie School of Dance to bring you
“Riverdance #BeActive Night”.
This is a free family event from 4pm to 7pm on September 28.
On April 30th, 2000 in Vicarstown the record was set for the World’s Largest Riverdance which we wish to acknowledge and also celebrate the 25th anniversary of Riverdance, with a line of Irish Dancers stretching as far as the eye can see.
This year as part of European Week of Sport #BeActive event Laois Sports Partnership in partnership with SVT Activity & Wellness Hub, the Buggie School of Irish Dancing wish to invite everyone to join us for this FREE, fun family event on the Grand Canal.
We are calling all Mammys, Daddys, Grannies, Grandads, Brothers, Sisters, friends, cousins. No experience required, as the professionals from Buggie School will be on hand to show us how it’s done.
Let’s get over 1,000 people to join us in a Riverdance on the Canal Bank to beat the record set, have fun and be active!
This event will be followed by a family fun evening in Annanough GAA Club showcasing the variety of sports and physical activity opportunities available in the SVT Activity & Wellness Hub with live music, mini blitzes, bouncing castles, refreshments and lots more fun things to do for everyone.
