Moment In Time: Ratheniska NS show off their unique art project in the Dunamaise Arts Centre in 2011

For this week’s Moment In Time, we look back to September 2011 when Ratheniska NS had an exhibition in the Dunamaise Arts Centre as part of Laois’ Culture Night.

To celebrate their 15th year in business, local design company Penhouse Design collaborated with Ratheniska NS to create a project with the theme of ‘What does 15 mean to you?’

Each class in the school created their own project based on what 15 meant to them. Junior Infants and 6th class made a film while senior infants created future portraits.

1st made a piece called The Collection while 2nd class made Magical Movie Moments. 3rd class made Various 15 Themed Pieces. 4th class’s project was called Step Back In Time and 5th class made an illustrated poem.

The children’s creations included paintings, drawings, mini television sets, a poem and a project about the year 1996 when Penhouse Design opened.

The principal and all the teachers were involved in helping the children with the project over a number of weeks.

“The school did everything themselves, we just explained the thinking behind the project and they really got into it” said Penhouse creative director Gillian Reidy.

Penhouse Design were very impressed with the project and the exhibition was on display in the Dunamaise Arts Centre for a full month.
