“It’s the worst footpath in Laois”, these were the words of local councillor Pascal McEvoy, in regards to the footpath at The Drive estate in Vicarstown.
Cllr McEvoy had motioned for the Laois County Council to replace the said footpath last year but to no avail.
At the latest Graiguecullen/Portarlington Municipal District meeting, Senior Executive Engineer, Mr Phillip McVeigh, confirmed that this footpath will be replaced.
Both Mr McVeigh and cllr McEvoy hope that the replacement of the footpath will be done by the end of 2019.
The cost to replace the full length of the footpath will cost €22,500 including VAT.
The Council will be seeking funding to carry out these works, as the footpath is in an ‘awful state’.
Cllr Tom Mulhall seconded the motion and agreed that the footpath was in ‘dire need of being replaced’.
