A teenager living in Laois has been charged with the murder of a Waterford fisherman following an incident almost a year ago.
According to RTE News, 18-year-old Dean Kerrie, with an address in Portarlington, Laois, was brought before a special sitting of Waterford District Court last night.
Mr Kerrie only turned 18 on July 1 but he was arrested yesterday afternoon in Portarlington and will be tried as an adult as a result.
He is charged with the murder of 25-year-old Jack Power who was stabbed to death on July 26 2018.
Mr Power, from the Brownstown area near Tramore, was stabbed in the Shanakiel estate in Dunmore East.
He was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
According to RTE, Mr Kerrie was remanded in custody by Judge Kevin Staunton and was granted free legal aid on account of him only turning 18.
He is set to appear again before the court next Tuesday.
