Spink Comhaltas Summer Seisiúns are set to get underway this evening in Abbeyleix.
This very popular event will kick off this evening and is set to run for the next two months.
They say: “Join us in Heritage House Abbeyleix every Wednesday during July and August, between 8pm and 10pm, for an evening of music, song, dance and story-telling.
“We look forward to seeing you at some point over the summer.
“For any younger musicians who know how to play their instrument but would like the opportunity to learn a tune before the start of the Seisiún, we will have one of our senior musicians available for 30 minutes before the Seisiún starts – from 7.30 to 8.00.
“We will trial this for the first two weeks, and if we have a good update, we will continue it over the summer.”
Spink Comhaltas is one of the most active Comhaltas branches in the midlands, with musicians and groups competing in all age groups and competitions in Leinster Fleadh this year.
With one of the most comprehensive instrument banks in the country, Spink Comhaltas provides music classes to young musicians from Laois, Kildare, Kilkenny and Carlow.
Beginners start at age 7 with junior classes running up to age 18.
There are also classes for adults. Music classes run from September to end May, but the Spink Comhaltas summer seisiúns give the opportunity to perform all year round.
