Laois County Council are to propose a Civic Reception for Laois ladies football legend Sue Ramsbottom.

The issue was raised at today’s full meeting of the council, and proposed by Cllr Paschal McEvoy.

The proposal was initially put forward at a CPG meeting last week and formally supported by the full council today.

“Sue has given a lifetime of service to ladies football and has been a recipient of all major awards. She is more than deserving of this recognition.

“I want to acknowledge the Timahoe Ladies football club for approaching me about this.

“Interestingly, Sue’s daughter was previously recognised by the council along with the Mini Scientist group from Timahoe National School so it’s something unique that a mother would be recognised after her daughter.”

This will be the latest honour bestowed upon the legendary Sue Ramsbottom.

A child prodigy, Sue Ramsbottom played senior football at just 12 years of age.

Sue won an All-Ireland Senior Championship medal with the O’Moore County in 2001 – and she’s also the proud recipient of seven All-Star awards (1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997).

Sue’s glittering career began at a young age and when she was just 12, she won an All-Ireland Senior club medal with Laois outfit The Heath, in 1986.

Sue later moved to Timahoe and enjoyed significant local and provincial success with the club there, while also appearing in another All-Ireland Senior club final in 2000, this time against Monaghan Harps.

In 2022, she was the subject of a Laochra Gaol – a TV show where TG4 recognise the careers of former players.

While last October, she was inducted into the Ladies GAA Hall of Fame.
