1 – Buggie School of Irish Dancing bring home 41 world championship medals to Laois
Dancers from the Buggie School of Irish Dancing competed at the An Chomhdhail World Irish Dance Championships in Killarney last week.
Their teachers, Gráinne Buggie, Brid-Ann Buggie and Ann-Marie Kelly are extremely proud of each and every one of them who graced the world stage, some for their very first time.
2 – Laois property sells for almost €700,000 – the second-highest price of 2025 so far
A Laois property sold for just shy of €700,000 recently, making it the second-most expensive property sold in the county so far in 2025.
The property in Coolbanagher, Emo, fetched €695,000, which is the same price-tag as the second-most expensive property sold for in all of 2024.

A Laois athlete has broken an Irish record that has stood for the last 19 years.
Mountmellick’s Ava O’Connor is now the holder of the U-23 national record for the 3000m steeplechase.
4 – Prisoner (30s) dies of suspected drugs overdose in Midlands Prison in Portlaoise
A male prisoner in his 30s died of a suspected drugs overdose in the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise this week. It was reported that the prisoner was was found in his cell on the D landing of the Portlaoise jail at around 11am.
The inmate’s sudden death is now the subject of multiple investigations.
5 – Laois family embarking on fundraising skydive to honour their late husband and father
A Laois family are embarking on a skydive in a wonderful fundraising event to honour the memory of their husband and father, Mr Anthony Walsh.
Husband to Irene and father to Ellen, Laura, and Tony, Mr Walsh suffered a sudden stroke in 2023. He was rushed to Portlaoise Hospital and then transferred to Tallaght Hospital by the Portlaoise Ambulance Service.
6 – Positive start as Portlaoise e-bikes pass 50,000km in first nine months
Laois County Council teamed up with Bolt in July of 2024 to launch Bolt e-bikes in Portlaoise, and nine months in, the initiative has been welcomed as a success.
E-bike providers Bolt are an Estonian shared mobility company that offers a number of services in over 600 cities in more than 50 countries around the world.

8 – Leinster Ladies MFC ‘B’ Semi-Final: Seven-goal Laois into provincial final after wild victory over Longford
Laois are into the Leinster Ladies MFC ‘B’ final at the expense of Longford after a crazy game in dreadful conditions.
Graiguecullen’s Mia Branagan was extraordinary in front of goal, finishing with a total of 4-2, while Timahoe’s Niamh Dundon scored one great goal and set up another two.
9 – Hurling Feile: Lethal Lowry leads Camross to ‘A’ glory following tussle with The Harps
Camross have been crowned Laois Feile ‘A’ champions after they edged out The Harps in the Centre of Excellence this evening.
The sides met in the league three weeks ago with Camross winning 3-22 to 0-12 but this was an entirely different affair.
10 – Hurling Feile: Incredible drama as last gasp Bohane goal for Mountrath denies Portlaoise in ‘B’ final
There was incredible drama in the Laois Hurling Feile ‘B’ final as Mountrath pipped Portlaoise with the final puck of the game.
The Town looked to have the game won on several occasions – but the game was level as it ticked into injury time in the second half of extra time.
