The Health Service Executive (HSE) have applied to Laois County Council for planning permission on two projects in the county.
In Portlaoise, the HSE have applied to construct an extension and alterations to St Fintan’s Hospital, which is a protected structure, with a decision expected on May 27.
The proposed works are to include the construction of a new 72-square-metre two-storey extension on the south side of the building to provide stairs and lift access at first floor level.
Additionally, there will be refurbishment works covering a total area of 402 square-metres on the first floor level of the south side of the main building.
In Mountmellick, the HSE have also applied for permission for further development at the St Vincent’s Community Nursing Unit, with a decision expected on June 8.
The development will consist of alterations to the external envelope of the newly constructed 50-bed unit building, including the removal of step in the north façade.
There will be a reduction in height of all ensuites roof parapet levels, the omission of one north balcony, and the addition of the coloured render inserts between windows at all levels.
Additional changes will see the removal of rendered parapet and replacement with metal balustrade above the glazed curtain wall elements to all facades and the omission of ten windows to the north east and the north west elevation.
There will be alterations to the main entrance including reconfiguration of the curtain walling, the inclusion of PV panels on the roof and the relocation of the existing compactor and associated bins.
The application includes landscape amendments to the north main entrance including the reconfiguration of the north path, construction of a new external access stair, relocation of the service entrance gate together with new surface finishes to the existing piers to match the existing boundary wall.
13 bicycle stands are to be added alongside the removal and replacement of non-compliant ramps to the rear of the unit and a new maintenance access road including alterations to the carparking layouts with reduction of seven spaces.
Finally, the application would see the demolition of an existing shed and construction of a new boiler house located at the south of the unit, the demolition and removal of an existing chimney to the west of the existing boiler house, and the demolition of an existing bathroom, ramp and blocking of an external door to the laundry building.
