In a heartwarming display of unity, sport, and inclusion, Mountrath Community School proudly hosted its first ever Inclusive Soccer Blitz recently.
This event marked a memorable highlight of Autism Awareness Week 2025.
The event took place on the school’s brand new state-of-the-art astro turf, which provided the perfect setting for a day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie.
Teams from Heywood Community School, Thurles CBS, and Portlaoise College joined Mountrath in a celebration that went far beyond the final score.
The Inclusive Soccer Blitz was designed to promote participation, friendship, and understanding among students of all abilities, with a special focus on neurodiverse students.
The atmosphere was electric from the first whistle, with players showing incredible teamwork, determination, and most importantly—joy.
Staff, students, and supporters cheered from the sidelines, proud to witness an initiative that not only celebrated Autism Awareness Week but also underscored the power of sport to bring people together.
Mountrath Community School’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) department played a key role in organizing the event, ensuring it was accessible and welcoming for all participants.
Teachers and SNAs from all schools involved were full of praise for the initiative, recognizing the value of inclusive sport in building confidence and creating lasting memories.
Plans are already being discussed to make this an annual event, with hopes that even more schools will take part in the future.
Based on this success, the future for inclusive sport in the region looks very bright indeed.
