The Leinster Golden Masters B Final was played in Carlow at the weekend with Laois man Kevin Brennan crowned champion.
Brennan was up against the hugely experienced David Redmond of Wexford in the final, which lived up to its billing as a close and exciting encounter.
Both Brennan and Redmond recorded hugely impressive victories in their respective semi-finals, with Clogh-Ballacolla handballer Brennan overcoming another Wexford opponent in Kevin Cowman on a scoreline of 14-21, 21-16, 21-7.
In the other semi-final, David Redmond produced a scintillating performance to defeat Kilkenny’s Stephen Hally 21-04, 21-8.
As promised, the final proved to be an exciting encounter with both players producing high quality handball.
The opening game proved a nip and tuck affair with little separating the two players throughout.
With the game hanging in the balance, Brennan showcased impressive fitness and determination to finish the stronger and take the opening game on a 21-16 scoreline.
The second game was to follow a similar pattern, with both players matching one another ace for ace.
Once more, it was the Laois handballer who finished the stronger as he impressively served out the game to take the Men’s Leinster Golden Masters B Title on a scoreline of 21-16, 21-16.
With this success, Kevin successfully defended the title he won twelve months ago.
He now enters into the All-Ireland series hopeful of going one step further and capturing that elusive All-Ireland title.
