Possibility of a second pedestrian crossing in Borris-In-Ossory to be considered by Laois County Council

Laois County Council are to consider the possibility of building a second pedestrian crossing in Borris-In-Ossory.

The matter was raised by Fine Gael Councillor Conor Bergin at a recent meeting of the Borris-In-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District.

Cllr Bergin requested that one be erected adjacent to St Canice’s Hall in the town.

He said: “This is a very long stretch of road and there is a big distance between the existing one and the end of the town.

“I am also pleased that the lights on the existing crossing were fixed as they were constantly flashing.”

In reply, a representative from Road Design said they would meet Cllr Bergin at the location and assess the proposal.

In a second motion, Cllr Bergin asked that a signpost at the junction of the Rathdowney Road/former Leix County hotel in Borris-In-Ossory be moved.

Engineer Rory O’Callaghan confirmed the signpost would be moved, to which Cllr Bergin said the Tidy Towns ‘would be happy’ about.

Finally, Cllr Bergin asked the Council to address the ‘severe road surface issues on the L-6020 at Camcloon/Clonehurk, Ballyfin’.

He said: “The road is twice as bad after the most recent storm and patching will not solve the flooding issues.”

Engineer O’Callaghan said that no budget was available to do this in 2025 and it would have to be done in 2026.
