‘Gig for Gaza’ to be held in Abbeyleix with proceeds going towards mobile maternity unit

A fundraising event has been organised in Laois with proceeds going to the people of Gaza, currently in the grips of assault by the Government of Israel.

The attacks and Gaza, and Palestine as whole, have been underway since October 2023 and show no signs of ending any time soon.

As a result, Power of Words Events and the Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign have combined forces to present ‘Gig for Gaza’.

All money raised will go to Palestine Aid Ireland to purchase a mobile maternity unit for Gaza.

The event will be an evening of music and spoken word held at Preston House, Abbeyleix, on Thursday, April 24, at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost €15 and are available to purchase on Eventbrite, with a “monster raffle” also to be held.

There will be musical performances by Brian and Figs, Rachael Bonham, Beats Working, Amy Phelan, David Delaney, Jane Hogan, Carpark Sci-Fi and Mairead Carroll.

There will also be spoken-word performances by John Whelan, Laura Murphy, John MacKenna, Siobhan Hoy and Said Enaia.

The guest speaker is Emily Durling Barrett, Chairperson of the Laois Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
