In Pictures: Laois students shine at sell-out performances of ‘The Greatest Show’

As PT Barnum famously said, no one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.

Mountrath Community School’s Transition Year students recently put on a spectacular production of The Greatest Show, drawing packed audiences for every performance.

The musical is inspired by ‘The Greatest Showman’, a 2017 movie starring Hugh Jackman which depicts a fictionalised telling of the life of PT Barnum, a legendary entertainer and promoter.

The show was the result of months of hard work in Mountrath, with students learning lines, songs, and choreography since November.

The production was a team effort. Musical director Anne Marie Lawlor, producer Evelyn Geary, director Paul Norton, and choreographer Julianne McNamara worked closely with the students to bring the show to life.

Therese McGrath designed the set, with additional support from staff who helped with props, costumes, and set construction.

For the students, the experience was about more than just performing – it was an opportunity to build confidence, work together, and create lasting memories.

The support from the community was incredible, with every show selling out.

“We’re so proud of what the students achieved,” said a member of the production team.

“The effort they put in really paid off, and the response from the audience was fantastic.”

Tge school thanked everyone in Mountrath and the surrounding areas who came along to support the show and helped make it such a success.
