Laois band The Mere Mortals make their long-awaited return with blockbuster gig in Portlaoise

Laois band, The Mere Mortals, are back recording and playing live music.

It has been quite some time since the group first released their unique style of music and to celebrate their return to the Portlaoise stage, they are announcing the re-release of their single ‘Here I am’.

The Mere Mortals are set to headline Kavanagh’s of Portlaoise on Friday, April 25, at 8.30pm in an event not to be missed.

Their single ‘Here I Am’ can be viewed here.

The band reunited for the TV programme Laochra Gael which was celebrating the many wonderful achievements of one of its members, Pat Critchley.

As well as displaying his skills and coaching on many of the basketball courts and football/hurling pitches throughout the country, Pat was also a member of The Mere Mortals.

The other band members (Paul Marron, Paul Brophy, Dick Duff, Des Rigney and Ollie Plunkett), enjoyed the reunion and their TV performances so much that they decided they would love to reform and continue from where they left off some years previously.

After what seems like an eternity, The Mere Mortals have reformed, commenced touring and are looking and sounding better than ever, with the group saying “it’s a ‘Mortal Sin’ that it’s taken this long.”

Many of the crowd pleasers can be expected from their extensive touring days in the 80’s and 90’s, such as ‘Travelling On’, ‘Jodi’, ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘Here I Am’.

The lads will also be showcasing a number of their new songs, including ‘Flying Too Close to Earth’, ‘Life Support Machine’ and ‘Sickness Of The Head’.

The band are also busy rehearsing and recording in Golden Egg Studios and are planning to release some fantastic new music to their ever loyal fans and to their fast growing new fan base.
