A new book, ‘The Irish Revolution, 1912-23 – Laois’, authored by Dr Cormac Moore, was launched at a recent event in Portlaoise Library.

This book is part of a series looking at this revolutionary period of Irish history in each county.

Dr Moore is a Laois native with a PhD from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, and is a historian-in-residence with Dublin City Council.

This new publication follows shortly after the Decade of Centenaries in Ireland, which sought to appropriately commemorate and reflect on this significant period in Irish history.

The book provides answers to a lot of questions about how Laois was shaped by those events and the role played by the people involved.

Dr Moore was in attendance in Portlaoise, signing copies of the book.

The event was hosted by Laois Heritage Officer Thomas Carolan.

Special guest speakers included former Government Ministers Charlie Flanagan and Sean Fleming TD.
