‘No To Ballynalacken Wind Farm’ to host public meeting this Thursday

An anti-wind farm group are set to host a public meeting on Thursday night against a proposal in their area.

The ‘No To Ballynalacken Wind Farm’ group has been set up in opposition to a proposal for a wind farm near Ballinakill, Castlecomer and Ballyragget.

After a previous meeting in Ballyouskill, this meeting will take place in Ballinakill Hall at 8pm.

On March 13, a planning application was submitted to An Bord Pleanala for a 12 wind turbine project.

These are set to be 155 metres tall and 117m rotor which members of the opposition group have described as ‘monstrosities that are going to dominate our townlands’.

This application has been submitted despite a smaller proposal being rejected in 2005.

Organisers behind the anti-wind farm group have outlined a number of issues they have with the project.

These are: noise, flicker, De-valuation of house and land prices, 6000+ traffic movements during construction, wildlife harm, water table interference, and a major overpowering visual impact on Ballinakill.

A spokesperson for the group

They said: “Due to rising concerns amongst surrounding townlands following our recent meeting in Ballyouskill there will be a meeting in Ballinakill hall on Thursday at 8pm.

“Please pass on this info to people directly impacted or anyone that has concerns about this proposal.

“Also just to remind everybody of the extremely short time that we have left to stop this. Objections must be submitted by the 9th of May.

“We will have members of the committee available on Sunday 13th April in Ballyouskill hall between 2pm and 6pm to assist anyone who needs more detail for their objection letter.

“Please please don’t delay in this. Each and every single objection letter matters. It is not somebody else’s responsibility it is on each of us. Now is the time to act.”
