Mountmellick CS 3-9 Banagher College 2-6
2nd Year Leinster ‘D’ Football Championship Final
Mountmellick CS were crowned 2nd Year Leinster ‘D’ football champions following victory over Banagher College of Offaly.
Mountmellick travelled to Offaly this afternoon for the game which took place in Faithful Fields.
The Laois school had reached the final after being crowned North Leinster champions back in back in January.
It was an extra time classic as they got the better of Johnstown of Kilkenny in that final.
No extra time was required here but this game was just as competitive.
The Rock’s Fionn Burke, who missed the North Leinster final through injury, was back today and put on a masterclass at full forward.
He finished with a total of 2-5 while Kilcavan’s Charlie McEvoy chipped in with four points.
Mountmellick’s Mohammad Chamma scored the other goal as Mountmellick won by six points in the end.
The Mountmellick CS defence really stood up throughout while Alex Connolly, just as he did in the North Leinster final, was excellent.
He put in a man of the match display to ensure that his side returned to Laois with their second trophy of the year.
