A new book, ‘The Irish Revolution, 1912-23 – Laois’, authored by Cormac Moore, will be launched at an event in Portlaoise Library on Thursday, April 3, at 7pm.
Dr Moore is a Laois native with a PhD from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, and is a historian-in-residence with Dublin City Council.
This new book is part of a series looking at this revolutionary period of Irish history in each county.
The series editors are Mary Ann Lyons and Daithi Ó Corrán.
This new publication follows shortly after the Decade of Centenaries in Ireland, which sought to appropriately commemorate and reflect on this significant period in Irish history.
For anyone interested in how Laois was shaped by those events and the role played by the people involved, this book should provide answers to a lot of questions.
The event will be hosted by Laois Heritage Officer Thomas Carolan.
Special guest speakers will include former Government Ministers Charlie Flanagan and Sean Fleming TD.
Author Cormac Moore will also be in attendance to sign copies of the book.
Signed copies of this important new publication will be on sale after the event at a special launch price of €20.
