Chance at redemption as Laois U-20 footballers return to O’Moore Park to face Wexford

Laois v Wexford
Leinster U-20 Football Championship Round 2 in O’Moore Park at 7.30pm

After a bruising encounter against Kildare last week, the Laois U-20 footballers return to Portlaoise looking for redemption.

Kieran Kelly’s charges were beaten 3-18 to 0-6 by the side who are the current favourites for the championship.

Based on the performances of the county at the corresponding minor grade, the outcome wasn’t that surprising.

But to lose by 21 points to any team after training for months has to be extremely demoralising.

So it will have been the job of Kelly and the rest of the management team to pick the lads up off the floor in the seven days since.

No Laois team has been publicly named but one would expect changes.

While Kildare were dismantling Laois, Wexford were getting the better of Carlow.

Two Rory Gilbert goals helped them open up a lead and saw them withstand a Carlow comeback.

Gilbert, James Lawless and Michael Kavanagh are among Wexford’s most dangerous opponents.

The bookies have Wexford as the favourites at 8/15 while Laois are 15/8.

As for the future, if Laois lose tonight and Kildare, as they certainly will, defeat Carlow, Laois will be eliminated.

Just the top two teams advance from the group so Laois have to avoid defeat to have any chance.

The game throws in at 7.30pm and we will bring you live coverage on our blog.
