A Laois County Councillor has received a positive response to all three of his motions surrounding road improvement works.
Independent Councillor Ben Brennan made the requests at a recent meeting of the Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District.
First, Cllr Brennan asked that the Council make safe the side of the road in Bilboa on the Laois side of the Kilkenny border.
He said: “The road has fallen in and the worry is that someone might fall into the drain.”
In response, Senior Engineer Philip McVeigh said: “Laois County Council will arrange to carry out works at this location under the 2025 road drainage works programme.”
In a second motion, Cllr Brennan requested that the Council contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland and ask them to open water inlets on the N78.
The Independent Cllr met engineer McVeigh at the location and showed how the road is getting flooded during heavy spells of rain.
He received news that this work would commence this week and was very pleased.
Finally, Cllr Brennan asked when the side of the road in Crossneen, Graiguecullen, would be made safe.
He said: “It is deteriorating very fast. There is a big dip in the road and it is very dangerous.”
Engineer McVeigh confirmed that works to rectify this would take place in the coming weeks.
