Clonaslee College were crowned South Leinster Junior D football champions following victory in Eire Og yesterday.

The side, managed by Sean Cotter and Ciaran Todd, ran out 12 point winners of Colaiste Abbain of Wexford.

In glorious sunshine, Clonaslee were represented by four clubs – Clonaslee-St Manman’s, Rosenallis, Kilcavan and Mountmellick.

Clonaslee College were on the front foot from the off and raced into a commanding lead by half time.

With midfielder Billy Byrne controlling that sector, it gave Clonaslee the platform to launch attacks.

Ronan Cuddy helped himself to two goals in the first half while Senan O’Brien got the third.

By the interval, Clonaslee College led 3-5 to 1-3 and were in a brilliant position.

But there was no complacency in the second half as the Laois school stepped on the gas again.

Cuddy completed his hat-trick while Shane Rigney also raised a green flag.

With Will Thompson and Jack Carroll also getting in on the scoring act, Clonaslee were far too good.

The side was captained by goalkeeper Killian Doyle of Kilcavan and he received the cup afterwards.
