In Pictures: Laois students take a trip to Italy to see artwork from the Renaissance

Heywood Community School students in 6th year Art travelled to Rome and Florence recently.

At the end of February, they headed to Italy to view and study the artwork from the Renaissance.

The tour began in Rome to view Michealangelo’s Sistine Chapel, The Last Judgment and Rapheal’s School of Athens.

After a visit to the Trevi Fountain, they travelled to Florence by train.

The two-day tour in Florence consisted of visits to the Bargello, Uffizi Gallery, Galleria dell’Accademia and The Florence Cathedral.

Students sketched and studied works from their Leaving Certificate Visual Studies course, such as Brunelleschi, Giotto, Cimabue, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michealangelo, Rapheal, Uccello and several more.

Students also had a chance to explore the city, visit markets and local landmarks, such as the Ponte Vecchio and Piazzale Michelangelo.
