The RTE TV cameras were in attendance as the community in Clonaslee came together for their St Patrick’s Day parade.
This parade took place for fourth year running (having not had one previously) and got underway at 12noon from the Clonaslee Community Centre.
€1,350 in cash prizes with a top prize of €600 and trophy was up for grabs for the best overall float – and a range of other cash prizes for other categories.
These include: Best Vintage, Best dressed dog, Best club/school, Most original float and Most entertaining float.
Among the other main attractions were the fact the Clonaslee hurling team of 1975 will be the parade’s Grand Marshals.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the club’s last senior hurling championship success and members of that team led out the parade.
Among the other main attractions this year was a performance from the Portarlington Concert Band, Uileann Pipes donated by Eileen Dunne’s family and if that wasn’t enough, there was also a tug of war on the Main Street.
Photographer Denis Byrne was present in Clonaslee this morning and captured some great images.
